Surprisingly to everyone, Angela Thacker, 30- an unknown player from Halifax, England won a seat at the WSOP Ladies Event, after she has beaten off strong competition at the Betfair Ladies Night Poker final. The event was hoped to show new female talent, but the win of a woman, who has never played in a live event before certainly wasn’t forseen. Thacker was fighting with Vera Duffy from Ireland and Francine Brandler. The last round was a battle between Thacker and Duffy. Thacker’s unexpected victory is definitely a good sign for her further performance in the most important event- WSOP in Vegas.

Gambling industry has finally achieved its aim! Casinos, betting shops and other forms of gambling will be soon permitted to advertise on television in the UK. The rules that do not allow such commercials will be cancelled in September next year when the Gambling Act will be brought to life. Still, it doesn’t mean that gambling industry will have the power to advertise whatever it wants. Special restrictions will be put in order to protect children and other people that might be easily harmed. First of all, gambling adverts will have to be responsible! The Amateur National Poker League (ANPL) has more than doubled their number of participating pubs since starting just a few weeks ago. What is the reason for such a sudden growth? Poker on the internet and television is extremely famous, and as a consequence, poker nights became important event in UK pubs and clubs. ANPL’s Managing Director, Sarah Meehan said: “Poker nights have become the new trivia nights. We are getting a huge demand from pubs as well as clubs and hotels. A $7,500 UK Poker Open freeroll will take place on September 10 at 13:00 EST. The winner will be given a $7,500 package including a $5,000 buy-in to the UK Poker Open and $2,500 for the travel and accomodation expenses. The contest will last until October 8. Is it possible to take Las Vegas into UK? Well, the gambling industry in Uk is full of hope. After recent discussion with Tony Blair and government officials about relaxing the laws for casino gambling in UK, it is possible, that in near future a new Las Vegas style casino complex will appear in Blackpool. Unfortunately the idea of several casino sites in the UK was strongly rejected by the anti gambling lobby in the UK.
